I decided to use PVC pipe for my boom instead of wood. I thought PVC was cheap and I was afraid wood would warp and/or twist at some point and that would make the elements out of line.
I built this jig out of two 2x4s to keep the pipe from moving while drilling. It also made sure all holes were drilled parallel.
